You can be a STAR !

Students in these classes receive training in dramatic arts as they produce a play for public performance.

All students entering the After School Program must commit to do the play in production and to be at all of its rehearsals and performances (exceptions for emergencies only).

Schedule: Dates and Times
The program is divided into groups that meet twice a week on the following schedule:

Dates Grades Times
Mon/Wed 1-5 4-6:30 pm
Mon/Wed 6-8 5-7:00 pm
Tue/Thu 1-5 4-6:30 pm
Tue/Thu 6-8 5-7:00 pm

The program will begin on September 5 and 6 (the Tuesday and Wednesday following Labor Day) and follow the Cobb County Schools’ calendar. No classes are held on days that Cobb schools are closed (for scheduled holidays or unscheduled emergencies) even if other schools are open. New students may enroll during September and afterward (although student who enroll less than a month before a show opens might not appear in that show).

After School Van Pickup
We provide pickup service from schools at no extra charge (schools only – no homes or other locations). Inquire about availability at your school. Pickups from elementary schools begin at 2:15 and for some schools may be as late as 3:00. Middle school pickups are made between 4:00 and 4:30. Private schools may be included if our schedule allows. Parents must notify the school in writing a day before the first pickup and advise the child’s teacher, so the child will know where to go for pickup. When children arrive at the theatre we have them do their homework, after which they have a snack and break until class begins. On early dismissal days students who are picked up must either be placed in their school’s A.S.P. until our regular pickup time or go home and be brought from home to the theatre. Early pickup can not be made.

CLASSES

Acting
We explore theatre terms, learning lines, staying in character and the importance of reacting. We use improvisation and theatre games to accustom our students to the stage and we help them develop skills for creating a character and playing a role.

Voice: Speech and Song
A voice reveals moods and emotions. An actor’s voice reveals the character and emotions of the role being played. We work with our students to develop their breathing, sound production and self-identity.

Movement and Dance
Movement studies begin with how to stand, how to address the audience while appearing to speak to another character. We explore how to express character with stance and motion as well as words. We also introduce some basics of stage dance that every actor should be aware of.

Theatre “Tech”
Not all of theatre is on stage. We introduce students to lighting, sound, scenery, props, costumes and make-up. Some of our students may choose to emphasize “tech” and train as stage managers, technical directors, set builders, costumers, make-up artists and other backstage jobs. Some may choose to be stage managers, sound and light controllers, etc. during performances rather than appearing on stage.

Productions
Performances are on select Saturdays at 11:00am and 3:00pm. Monday and Wednesday students will perfrom one show and Tuesday and Thursday students will perform the other.
